Josh Jurhill. A Rising Natural Star
Trains For Competition And Camera

By Hal Peat

Rising natural bodybuilder and fitness model Josh Jurhill is typical of the current wave of American amateur competitors who combine goals for achieving success on the competitive scene with goals in building a modelling career.  This young 5’10”, 185lb athlete began bodybuilding for competition less than two years ago, but has already enough outstanding results in building up his physique to the point where he has achieved winning and high places in regional and national natural bodybuilding events.

Josh’s training and diet has concentrated on building sufficient size and separation to impress the judges at contest time, without losing the natural aesthetic appeal and proportions of his physique.  In fact, his regimen since he began training for bodybuilding competition has also provided him with an improved edge in being able to market himself for fitness modelling opportunities for some leading international liquor companies.
A resident of the American southwest, Josh looks forward to building further on his natural bodybuilding success and at the same time, continuing to use this to expand his modelling career.  Here he discusses the training routines and nutritional lifestyle he has been following, and his plans for the future onstage and before the camera.

BodyFitness: When and where did you begin training seriously?

Josh Jurhill: I am from Phoenix, Arizona, and I grew up nearby in the city of Scottsdale.  While I was still in high school I began training when I was about 18, and then I decided I wanted to do bodybuilding just about a year-and-a-half ago.  That’s when I started to compete.  I started training at a local L.A. fitness club and now train twice a day.

BF: So your first competitions were in 2006?

JJ: Yes, this year I did the OCB (natural bodybuilding league) Natural Arizona.  I won the overall novice there, and was second in the overall competition. Then I also did the INBFF (International Natural Bodybuilding & Fitness Federation) Best of the West competition a month later, and won the overall men’s open there, and also won my professional card in that league.  Then I did the fitness model division at the Musclemania in Hollywood, California in November 2006.  I didn’t place at that event, but it was useful for my fitness modelling background.  Then more recently I did the NPC Natural Arizona in March of 2007, and placed fifth in the overall men’s event.  Meanwhile I’ve also been pursuing doing fitness modelling for companies like national liquor labels, so I am always having to stay in shape for that.
