The MET - Maximum Efficiency Training System

“We are what we repeatedly do.”
Aristotle

How Low Should I Go?

Q: The manager of the gym I train at told me he has 1.3% percent body fat. One of my goals since starting the MET Program is to get down from 23% to 17% so that I'll be able to see my abs, but is this low enough?

A: Well first of all, the manager at your gym must be Jesus Christ, because he is the only person in history that is alleged to have risen from the dead. At 1.3% body fat it is pretty safe to say that a person would be deceased.

The average male that neither eats correctly nor works out is between 17% and 22% while the average female is slightly higher at 20% to 27%. Many of these people are able to see their abdominals. Healthy men are normally between 15% and 20% and healthy women are around 19% to 25%.

Most competitive male bodybuilders are as low 5% to 7% when they step on stage. They only maintain that level for a short period due to the health issues that may arise. When the body gets below 5% body fat we start to lose the fat that surrounds and cushions the brain as well as our joints. We need to have body fat to perform many vital functions of the body.

Women are a little different than men in that they need to keep their minimum body fat as high as 12% to 15% to maintain health.

Try training your abs with resistance and developing the muscles. This will make them stand out more as well as burn intramuscular fat. Try to make yourself lean but do not lose body fat to the point where it makes you feel run down and unhealthy. Looking lean is good but not at the expense of your health.

How Do These Supplements Help?

Q: I read that ADL3+ and UDA+ Protein are a part of the MET Program and that they can help the body recover faster from workouts, but I don't know much more than that. Can you give me more information on these two products?

Venice Beach second-generation products have been making noise in the supplement arena all around Europe recently. These products are developed with superior quality ingredients that have proven their effectiveness in double blind human studies. Not only are they effective, but also they are safe. Venice Beach second-generation products will counter the physiological and psychological stresses that are associated with resistance training. They contain many of the natural ergogenic compounds that research proves to combat immune suppression, fight off fatigue, improve energy levels (especially lowered levels due to over-training), and decrease recovery time between workouts.

ADL3+ is a powerful cortisol antagonist that decreases recovery time and does not create a corticosteroid reaction. While using ADL3+ the athlete receives the advantage of lowering the cortisol levels due to exercise stress but maintaining normal physiological concentrations of this important hormone to combat normal stress and maintain metabolic functions. It is the first legal supplement of it's kind to hit the marketplace that can help both men and women. ADL3+ provides the following advantages to health and fitness enthusiasts:

  • Functions at the cellular level to support the body’s defences
  • Sharply reduces cortisol levels and the catabolic effect of over-training
  • Promotes healthy cholesterol and blood pressure levels
  • Contains high levels of immune enhancing beta-glucans

Recent studies performed at California State University on the effects of some of ADL3+’s main ingredients on hormone levels, muscle soreness and a general feeling of well being in weight lifters showed that they are very effective. These weight lifters were put on a very intense training regimen in order to purposely create an atmosphere of over-training. The athletes performed five sets of 10 all-out repetitions of 13 different movements, all done at maximum intensity. This went on for a period of two weeks during which athletes were given either a placebo or ADL3+ ingredients.

The placebo group was greatly affected by the soreness that came as a result of the training. However, the group that received the ADL3+ ingredients only reported a feeling described as “a minor annoyance.” The athletes were also asked to describe their level of well being according to a chart that described the feeling of health and energy upon awakening. Every one of the ADL3+ subjects reported a sense of overall well being. They reported higher levels of energy, felt stronger, and reported fewer aches and pains. Their placebo counterparts felt debilitated and unrested. An amazing fact is that even though this was a double blind experiment where both the subjects and experimenters were unaware of who was receiving the placebo or the ADL3+ ingredients, the subjects were actually able to tell when they were on the ADL3+ ingredients and when they were not.

ADL3+ has been proven to be an effective agent in combating physiological and psychological stresses brought on by resistance training, and is a supplement effective for men as well as women.

UDA+ Protein and the Over-training Syndrome

Not too long ago the Peak Wellness Centre in Greenwich, Connecticut performed a study on a high quality protein that contained gamma glutamyl cysteine to see the effects it would have on over-training. All the subjects had experience with physical training. They performed aerobics and circuit training for one hour a day, five days a week over a period of two weeks. They were forced to maintain 70% to 85% of their maximum heart rate. Their training volumes were increased steadily by 166% as compared to the mere 25% increase in volume (that's 6.64 times less) than it normally takes to produce over-training.

No supplements were given the first week of the test. Then, in the second week, the high quality protein containing gamma glutamyl cysteine was added to their diet. This is because cysteine moietes increase intracellular glutathione production. The reason the scientists wished to have the subjects produce more glutathione is due to the fact that when it is low the immune system becomes vulnerable and we are more susceptible to the symptoms of over-training. The scientists were hoping to observe the effects that glutathione supplementation had on the immune system and consequently the prevention of over-training.

As hypothesized, the test subjects that ingested the gamma glutamyl cysteine began to improve physically, psychologically and physiologically from the effects of the first week of supplement-free training. Blood samples were used to prove that their immune systems were functioning at a normal capacity. These same blood samples confirmed that the subjects displayed an improved amount of CD4s, which are the cells that strengthen the body's resistance. Neutrophils and lymphocytes also increased, while glutathione reductase activity steadied and triglycerides levels lowered by 55 points! The subjects also reported feeling more energetic and less fatigued.

UDA+ Protein from Venice Beach has one of the highest levels of gamma glutamyl cysteine moietes available on the market. Not only will UDA+ protein powder help you build quality muscle and guard against the negative effects of carcinogens; it will safeguard your system from over-training. That means training harder for longer periods of time and staying on track. These two products are a must have for any serious athlete following the MET Program and are the basic fundamentals that I use daily.
