Hardcore Chest Training

Is there anything bad about having big arms and shoulders? Well, most of us would like to have that problem, but the truth is that when you aim to win big titles it can be a kind of a problem, because when both your arms and shoulders are really big they tend to make look your chest smaller than in really is. At least, that’s what Gary Halliwell feels, so despite sporting a big chest he’s striving to improve it even more. Check out how this colossus is adding slabs of muscle to his chest.

Gary Halliwell stands 5’6” (165cm) and sports 19” (48cm) arms… that’s a really huge set of pipes! Plus his shoulders are round and thick with all three deltoid heads well separated. Even so, the man isn’t happy, because he feels that such big arms and shoulders make his chest appear smaller.
Of course, he has made the right decision, which is not to change his arms and shoulders but to improve his chest size and shape even more. And knowing Gary very well, I have no doubt he will succeed, because he’s using a basic approach that has proven its effectiveness time and again.

A Closer Look at Gary Halliwell
Gary Halliwell took out third place at the 2007 Mr. Britain championships, so he’s one of the top British bodybuilders around right now. Currently he’s training to add more size to his frame before jumping onto a contest stage again. Let’s get to know him in a bit more detail…
Gary was born on November 17th, 1966 in Wigan, and has one brother. He is currently single but engaged to the beautiful Angela, who loves training too and has even competed herself. His present occupation includes paint sprayer and forklift driver.
The guy has been involved with the weights most of his life, because he started weight training when he was 16 years of age. He had always liked the bodybuilder look and wanted it for himself. So hey, he’s been training now for about 25 years – more than half his life – but oddly enough has been competing for only two years. In the beginning the idea of competing never crossed his mind, his main goal was to work out for the sake of it and improve himself.
Off-season Gary now weighs 17 stone (108kg) and has competed at around 14 stone (89kg). Yes, he’s a big boy! Not only his arms are huge, Gary has a chest of 49” (122cm), which he still wants to improve, a waist of 34” (84cm), legs 29” (72cm), calves 19” (48cm), and neck 20” (50cm). He is a real powerhouse! When it comes to sheer mass, pound-for-pound few guys can equal Gary.
However, despite his bulk we could class him as an ectomorph, so putting on size doesn’t come easy for him, and Gary has worked very hard to build it up. It took him quite a few months of training and eating the right foods and supplements before he started to fill out and gain weight and see his strength increase.
“No, it was never easy to improve for me”, he confirms.
